fire & water || female.

I've been becoming fire for a long time.

There's such truth to this. Become the fire, or you'll burn to death.

In this age of #metoo, of #TimesUp, of women coming forward and saying we've had #enough of the mistreatment, I'm so proud that God made me a woman.

It's a gift.

We nurture, we give life, and we make life damn good for the people we love.

We give until we collapse into ourselves like dying stars at 12am, knowing full well that in 5 hours we're gonna do it all again.
We shatter, we fall apart, our hearts get broken, but we don't stop loving despite the shattering. And we don't stop moving, never for long.

Because we're strong, because we know we matter, even when we feel like failures.

Because there are little eyes watching our every move, little hands reaching to our waists, grabbing our legs, cupping our faces in the dark at 3am.

"Up, Mama.
Up, Auntie.
Up, Mum-Mum.
Up, Grammie.
Up, Gramma."

Up, girl.

UP.

Come hell or high water, we need to look up, show up, GET up.
And both will come.
They will come like a hurricane.

And we can either lay down and give up or we can do what we do better than a lot of men.

We can rise.

Many of us rise because the little eyes are watching to see if Gramma is going to forgive when she's wronged, if Auntie is going to let go of the sour bitterness of betrayal, if Mama is going to lose her mind on the rude cashier who snaps that she needs to swipe the card, not insert - or if she'll practice grace.

But ultimately we rise because strong women rise.

It doesn't end here, it won't. We need each other more than ever, if only to have someone cup your face and make you look up at them and say, "This isn't over."

We are all FIRE, yes. But we're also WATER.
We are both.
We are necessary.
You are necessary.
You are enough.

You're worth more than you'll ever know. ♡

P.S. Here's one of my favorite new tunes. Enjoy. :*
